Hanna N. Algattas
Dr. Hanna Algattas is a renowned neurosurgeon who serves as the head of our Pituitary Center of Excellence, medical director of Endoscopic Neurosurgery, and directs our UBNS Brain & Spine Tumor Center. He's also an Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at the University at Buffalo Medical School. Dr. Algattas specializes in complex open and endoscopic treatments of skull base and pituitary disease, neuro-oncology, and minimally invasive cranial surgery. His additional interests include neurotrauma, degenerative spine disease, traumatic brain/spinal cord injury, and concussions.
After completing his undergraduate training at Colgate University with a degree in Cellular Neuroscience, he then received his medical degree from the University of Rochester Medical Center and completed his residency training in neurological surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Dr. Algattas then completed fellowship training in open and endoscopic skull base surgery under the mentorship of Dr. Paul Gardner at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center – an internationally renowned institution in skull base surgery and known for the advent of the expanded endonasal approach for minimally invasive removal of skull base tumors.
Dr. Algattas also completed a Sports Neurosurgery Fellowship, the first developed in the nation, under the mentorship of Drs. Joseph Maroon, Vincent Miele, and David Okonkwo. During his time at the University of Pittsburgh, he was awarded the inaugural Aequanimitas Award as recognition for his humility, compassion, and excellent care of patients.
He sees patients at our Comprehensive Neuroscience Center in Williamsville and Erie County Medical Center (ECMC). He performs surgeries at Buffalo General Medical Center/Gates Vascular Institute, Erie County Medical Center (ECMC), and also performs Gamma Knife Radiosurgery at our Atlas Surgical Center in Williamsville and Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
