Dr. Eliezer Soto joined the University at Buffalo Neurosurgery in 2026 as an interventional pain physician specializing in the comprehensive management of spine and musculoskeletal pain disorders. Dr. Soto is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Pain Medicine, and Hospice & Palliative Medicine. He is also a Fellow of Interventional Pain Practice (FIPP) through the World Institute of Pain, a Certified Interventional Pain Sonologist (CIPS), and a diplomate of the European Diploma in Pain Medicine (EDPM) awarded by the European Pain Federation (EFIC).

He earned his medical degree from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Mount Auburn Hospital, a Harvard Medical School teaching hospital, followed by a fellowship in Hospice and Palliative Medicine at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). He subsequently completed fellowship training in Anesthesiology-based Interventional Pain Medicine at Mount Sinai Beth Israel in New York City, where he also completed a research fellowship in Pain Medicine and Clinical Research. Dr. Soto is currently pursuing a PhD in Clinical Research at Universidad Complutense de Madrid.

Dr. Soto specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic pain using a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach. His clinical expertise includes the use of fluoroscopy and ultrasound technology, and endoscopically guided interventional spine and pain procedures. These procedures encompass endoscopic spine interventions, including endoscopic rhizotomy, endoscopic discectomy, and endoscopic spinal decompression. Other treatments Dr. Soto has expertise in are basivertebral nerve ablation, spinal cord stimulation, peripheral nerve stimulation, radiofrequency ablation, sacroiliac joint interventions, vertebral augmentation, regenerative therapies, peripheral joint interventions, and other minimally invasive pain management techniques.

His clinical and research interests include vertebrogenic and discogenic low back pain, minimally invasive spine interventions, endoscopic spine procedures, neuromodulation, regenerative medicine, and translational pain research. He works closely with neurosurgeons, orthopedic spine surgeons, physiatrists, and rehabilitation specialists to develop individualized, evidence-based treatment plans that optimize patient outcomes while minimizing the need for surgery whenever appropriate. 

As an active clinician-scientist, Dr. Soto has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, and has been invited to review articles focusing on vertebrogenic pain, discogenic pain, neuromodulation, minimally invasive spine interventions, and regenerative therapies. His research focuses on advancing evidence-based interventional pain treatments through translational research and prospective clinical studies. He serves as a reviewer for several international pain and spine journals and actively participates in national and international pain societies.

Dr. Soto is committed to delivering compassionate, evidence-based care while advancing innovation, education, and clinical research in interventional pain medicine. Being bilingual in English and Spanish, he places great importance on communicating with his patients and ensuring they receive the information and service they need.

He serves as a peer reviewer for several leading pain and spine journals and has presented his research and clinical expertise at national and international scientific meetings. 

Dr. Soto is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Society of Pain and Neuroscience (ASPN), the International Pain and Spine Intervention Society (IPSIS), the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians (ASIPP), the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP), the European Pain Federation (EFIC), the Sociedad Española del Dolor (SED), and the Sociedad Española de Cirugía Percutánea y Endoscópica de Columna (SECPEC). 

He remains committed to advancing physician education, evidence-based clinical practice, and innovation in interventional pain medicine. Dr. Soto is a Fellow of Interventional Pain Practice (FIPP), a Certified Interventional Pain Sonologist (CIPS), and is currently pursuing a PhD in Clinical Research at Universidad Complutense de Madrid, with research focused on advancing minimally invasive spine interventions and improving outcomes for patients with chronic pain.
