Andrew D. Legarreta

Dr. Andrew D. Legarreta is a minimally invasive and complex spine surgeon at UBNS and a Clinical Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. He has an academic and clinical focus on integrating machine learning diagnostics and intraoperative digital health technologies to optimize care for spinal patients. His additional surgical interests include sports medicine and neurotrauma.
After earning his Doctor of Medicine from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, Dr. Legarreta joined the University of Pittsburgh Department of Neurological Surgery for his residency. He also completed Sports Medicine, enfolded complex, and minimally invasive spine fellowships at UPMC, as well as an AO Spine fellowship. The AO Spine Fellowship Program provides elite, specialized training for neurosurgeons and orthopedic surgeons through a global network of renowned centers, fostering advanced surgical expertise and long-term professional collaboration.
Dr. Legarreta has established a robust national research footprint in clinical outcomes and medical AI. He has co-authored more than 20 peer-reviewed publications and over 35 scientific abstracts and presentations. His work specializes in automated radiographic segmentation of the spine, predictive modeling for surgical diagnostics, and the cost-effectiveness of advanced neurosurgical procedures.
Dr. Legarreta sees patients at our Comprehensive Neuroscience Center and performs surgeries at Kaleida Health, Atlas Surgery Center, and Catholic Health.
