Skull Base Surgery

UBNS performs minimally invasive procedures whenever possible. In some cases, however, traditional open skull surgical procedures are still the best treatment option.  UBNS physicians are equally as practiced and skilled in both approaches and can expertly perform whichever is most suited to a patient’s particular case.  Skull base surgery is the preferred method to remove both noncancerous and cancerous growths, and abnormalities at the base, or bottom, of the skull.

Conditions that may be treated using skull base surgery include:

  • Cysts that develop from birth
  • Growths caused by infections
  • Pituitary tumors
  • Meningiomas
  • Chordomas
  • Craniopharyngiomas
  • Craniosynostosis
  • Cerebrospinal fluid fistulas
