Residents who live within a 10 to 15 minute commute of the downtown hospitals may take call from home. On-call rooms are available for residents who are required to spend nights in the hospital.
Residents are not allowed to moonlight while on clinical rotations. They may moonlight while on non-clinical rotations with the program director's prior written approval.
At each hospital, professional staff, including physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and nurse clinicians, assist residents with daily patient care. Additionally, members of the support staff, including a residency program coordinator, an editorial assistant, and a medical illustrator, are available to assist residents in the preparation of presentations and publications.
Resident Contributions to the Discipline
We strive to stay at the forefront of neurosurgical research and clinical practice. Our residents have been instrumental in our efforts to develop and maintain excellent programs in neuroendovascular surgery, spine surgery, transplantation and regeneration, pediatric neurosurgery, critical care, and neuro-oncology. Over the past several years, they have contributed to the scientific literature, and have presented at national and international meetings. The supplemental bibliography provides an overview of resident activities over the past several years.
